Purpose
Critical Relief for Children, Inc. (CRC) is a U.S. 501 (c) (3) public charity that funds vetted charitable organizations and ministries serving children, families, and communities in Greece.
We identify, vet, and fund charitable organizations doing effective work on the ground — providing medical care, education, social services, and family support where the need is greatest.
Most Greek charitable organizations cannot offer U.S. donors a tax deduction. Many lack access to American grant funding, workplace giving, and donor-advised funds. CRC fills that gap.
Our partners include local Orthodox Christian ministries such as the Ormylia Foundation offering preventative medicare care and social services to vulnerable children in Northern Greece.
Leadership
The Honorable Judge William Nicholas
Founder and President, 2016
Judge Nicholas co-founded Critical Relief for Children, Inc. in 2016 After serving twenty-four years, as a Judge of the Family Court in Delaware. While serving on the Delaware Family Court he became concerned with neglected and abused children especially those in need of psychiatric services engendered by abuse.
On June 13th, 2017 The Honorable William Nicholas, passed away nine months after being diagnosed with an aggressive cancer.
Judge Nicholas cared deeply for children who suffered abuse and trauma, and devoted much of his time in their service. It is impossible to quantify his influence on our formation and our vision. His deep commitment to serve the suffering and protect vulnerable children were the impetus that formed Critical Relief for Children.
Michael Boosalis
Co-Founder and President, 2017–2018, 2025–present
Michael is a Greek American from rural Pennsylvania. He co-founded CRC after witnessing firsthand the devastating effects of the economic crisis on Greek families, young people, and children. Michael has led CRC since the passing of Judge Nicholas, and has lived in Greece for the past eight years, working alongside the institutions CRC supports.
Michael graduated from the Elliott School of International Affairs at the George Washington University.
Professionally, Michael has spent his career launching new products and services for startups and technology companies in both Europe and the United States — most recently Instrumentl, a Y Combinator-backed platform that helps leading nonprofits find, win, and manage grant funding. That experience now serves CRC's core work: connecting Greek charitable organizations with American grants and giving.
